What You Need to Know about Your Baby’s First Doctor’s Appointment
During your baby’s first doctor appointment, your pediatrician will:
- Perform a comprehensive physical examination of your baby to determine your baby’s overall physical health
- Record baseline information including your baby’s length and weight, to monitor your baby’s growth and development over time
- Order any lab work necessary to determine any underlying medical conditions

- Administer first doses of vaccinations to protect your baby against illness

Other doctor visits should follow this first visit, including a visit when your child is 2 weeks old, followed by visits at 1,2,4,6,9,15, 18 months, and 2 years. The newborn visits are replaced by well-child visits, which will continue as your child grows.
